Rauno Aaltonen is a legendary Finnish rally driver who enjoyed tremendous success in the 1960s and 1970s. Known as the “Rally Professor,” Aaltonen won the European Rally Championship in 1961 and 1965, as well as the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally in 1967.
Aaltonen’s smooth and precise driving style earned him acclaim across the world of motorsports. He competed in the World Rally Championship during its inaugural season in 1973, finishing third overall. Aaltonen’s impressive career also included wins at the 1000 Lakes Rally in Finland and the Acropolis Rally in Greece.
Now 86 years old, Rauno Aaltonen remains an iconic figure in the history of rally racing. On August 31st, attendees of the 47th Annual ABFM at PIR will have the rare opportunity to hear Aaltonen share stories from his storied career and provide insights into the golden age of international rallying.
